Calum Hood’s electrifying and vibrant single “Call Me When You Know Better”, released on May 8th 2025, off his upcoming debut album ORDER chaos ORDER, has established itself as a new summer hit of this year, at least one of mine. Hood, who is best known for being the bassist for the popular Australian boy band 5SOS, has ventured into his solo career this year. I have been a fan of 5SOS’s sound so this moment is both exciting and sentimental for fans. The first song that he released, “Don’t Forget You Love Me”, seems like the first part into the insight of the relationship, followed by Call Me When You Know Better.

The lyrics in Call Me When You Know Better explore a feeling we all are deeply familiar with: going through a relationship where both people aren’t fit for each other. However, the upbeat rhythm, and playful and dream-like atmosphere created in this music video, shows the audience that the messiness of this dynamic still can retain its fun and euphoria, despite the bad moments. “It doesn’t mean your life is over. I’ll always be around” He sings in bridge over drumming. The music video produced by Day Wave reminds me of my own late night escapes with my friends, where most of the fun lies in getting to the location, with scenes of Hood running through the dark with a bat, illuminated by a looped paint-stricken-background and red roses. The sporadic close up shots add to the unfiltered and intimate vibe created in this video.
Overall, the song and music video feels whole and fun and in this tumultuous time, some lighthearted summer pop is needed. With artists like Calum Hood, Lorde and other stars putting out upcoming albums, I wholeheartedly believe our playlists this year will probably be the best yet. CHAOS order CHAOS will be released on the 13th of June.
