'Pretend' And 'Porcelain': A Heartfelt Introduction To Trichor

One of the things that sets certain artists apart from the masses is the passion they put into their work. “Pretend” and “Porcelain” are not only an introduction to what New Jersey–based alternative rock band Trichor has up their sleeve, but also proof that you don’t need an extensive catalog to show the world how much talent you have.

Although the band only has two songs officially released, they are mostly known for their live performances. Their setlist is largely composed of material that will feature on their yet-to-be-announced new EP. With charming lyrics and touching melodies, they have single-handedly swept fans off their feet and introduced them to a more subtle face of shoegaze—one that is powerful and full of stamina at times, yet soft and gentle when needed.

There is a certain tenderness in “Pretend” that flows between the melody and the words. The softness of the vocals enhances a melancholy that feels completely genuine. While the chords and kick give the song structure, the lyrics give it a soul. Released on July 6, 2025, the song is accompanied by a music video with a bright color scheme and a compelling narrative that encapsulates the fun, mellow nature of the track.

“Porcelain” feels more like a good shake. The contrast between the soft vocal harmonies and the thundering melody intensifies the track while maintaining its soft core. The lyrics are clever and witty, summing up the overall ambiance of their music. This track not only proves the band’s musical chemistry, but also showcases the vocalist’s talent for switching between a soft tempo and straight-up screamo.

A combination of shoegaze and alternative rock, these songs are a heartfelt introduction to what the band has to offer. With Madison—known as “Mads” to friends—on vocals and guitar, Jules on bass, Sebastian on guitar, and Thomas behind the drums, the group has toured across the East Coast, including states such as Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., New York, and their native New Jersey. Their yet-to-be-announced new EP is expected to be released by spring 2026, with new singles and music videos also on the way.
