HEAVY PULP: A NEW START FOR THE TECHNICOLORS

After a four-year musical hiatus, one solo project by frontman Brennan Smiley, and a cancelled tour in 2022, The Technicolors make a fresh, striking comeback with the announcement of their upcoming album Heavy Pulp. With “Posh Spice” and “Softcore”, the band introduces a new, yet so familiar sound to their audience. Released on April 11th, 2025, “Posh Spice” serves as the lead single and is accompanied by the slogan “Spice Up Your Life!”

Compared to their last album Cinema Sublimina, the new singles have a different, more upbeat sound. However, you can still hear traces of their characteristic alternative style in the strum of the electric guitar and the distortion in the melody. Complemented by Brennan’s vocals, the lyrics of Posh Spice give the song a unique, laid-back vibe that captures the essence of the upcoming record. With a vibrant, colorful music video, they set the aesthetic for their new era—and it looks promising.

Released on May 23, 2025, Softcore serves as the second single from the album. Grazing the edges of pop-gaze and leaning slightly into shoe-gaze, The Technicolors explore a fresh sound that opens the door to many new possibilities. With lyrics like “Kiss off burning regret. In the city you’re my lover, you’re my death,” the band showcases beautiful songwriting, paired with a slow tempo and delicate execution. Softcore paints a laid-back narrative about the messiness of love and how quickly relationships can burn out.

Both singles are accompanied by visually stunning music videos—each directed by Jarod Evans—that not only elevate the songs but also position the band among the top releases in terms of both music and cinematic quality.

Heavy Pulp is set to be released on all streaming platforms on August 29, 2025, and will feature eleven tracks. The band has also announced three intimate shows: on release day in Los Angeles, California; on August 30 in Phoenix, Arizona; and on September 5 in New York City, New York.
